More games to play with chat

Not every stream game needs viewers in a room. In these, you play 1v1 against a viewer, or chat guesses and helps while you play.

Guess Who online

A 1v1 against one viewer: create an online room and send the link only to the viewer you picked. Chat can suggest the next yes or no question. Your secret character is on your screen, so your opponent should not watch the stream during the match.

Football Tic-Tac-Toe online

A 1v1 against a viewer in an online room. Chat can shout footballers who fit both categories, so agree first whether your opponent may read chat.

Charades generator

You act, chat guesses. Open the generator on your phone and keep it off camera, read the prompt and act it out. Give a point to the first right answer in chat.

Hangman daily word

Play the daily word and let chat pick the letters. Everyone gets the same word that day, so viewers can try it themselves after the stream.

Word Search daily puzzle

Open the daily puzzle and ask chat to spot words in the grid. A calm warm-up while viewers arrive.

Guess the Player

A football duel for two players on one phone. Play a friend next to you, keep the phone off camera, and let chat suggest questions about your friend's secret footballer.

Football Bingo

A footballer appears and you place him on a club, country or trophy square. Read the name out and let chat vote on the square. The daily card is the same for everyone.

What Streamer Mode does

Streamer Mode is a setting for the online Imposter game. It is saved for you only (on this device, and on your account when you are signed in), so your viewers and friends play exactly as before.

  • Your card stays face-down. Instead of your word or role, your screen shows a locked card. It looks the same whether you are crew or the imposter, so a glance at your stream gives nothing away.
  • Your card comes as a private notification. When a round is dealt, your card arrives as a silent notification on your computer. Press P or click Peek to see it again. It closes by itself after 5 seconds, and you can peek once every 5 seconds.
  • The room code is hidden. The code shows as ●●●●●● in the lobby and in the game, and the tab title never shows it. In the lobby, hold the button under the code to see it, or use Copy link to share the invite without putting the code on screen. The QR code button is hidden too.
  • Join approval turns on by itself. When you host with Streamer Mode on, join requests are switched on for your room, even a private one. A viewer who opens your link sends a request, and you decide who gets in. You can still turn it off for that room.
  • On a phone, you hold to see your card. Phones cannot show your card as a notification. Hold the button to see it, and only when viewers cannot see your screen.

How to set up Streamer Mode with OBS

Streamer Mode keeps your card off the game screen. What your viewers see also depends on what your stream captures, so check this once before you go live.

  1. Turn on Streamer Mode with the button on this page. In a room, it is at the bottom of the lobby; it is also under This device in your profile settings.
  2. Click Test notification in the Streamer Mode settings. A test card appears on your computer.
  3. In OBS, add a Window Capture source and choose your browser window. Do not use Display Capture: it records your whole screen, notifications included.
  4. Look at the OBS preview. If the test notification shows there, you are still capturing the screen, not the window.
  5. Crop the top of the source: hold Alt (Option on a Mac) and drag its top edge down until the tabs and the address bar are gone.
  6. Turn off Focus Assist or Do Not Disturb on Windows, or Focus on a Mac. While they are on, your card may never show up.

Window Capture or Display Capture?

OBS sourceWhat viewers seeGood for Streamer Mode?
Display CaptureYour whole screen, notifications includedNo
Window Capture of the browserOnly the browser window, with its tabs and address barYes, after you crop the top
Window Capture of the installed appOnly the game: the app has no tabs or address barYes, no crop needed

Full screen also hides the tabs and the address bar, if you prefer to play in your normal browser.

Troubleshooting

  • The notification does not show. Open Streamer Mode and click Test notification. If nothing appears, turn off Focus Assist or Do Not Disturb, and check in your system settings that your browser is allowed to send notifications.
  • Notifications are blocked. Click the icon next to the address bar, allow Notifications for this site, then reload the page.
  • Viewers can see my notification. Your stream is capturing the whole screen. Switch the source to Window Capture.
  • Peek does nothing. You can peek once every 5 seconds. The button counts down until the next peek.
  • The room code is visible on stream. It is in the address bar. Crop the top of the Window Capture source, or play in the installed app or full screen.

Questions from streamers

What is Streamer Mode?

A setting in the online Imposter game that keeps your card face-down on screen and sends it to you as a private notification. It also hides the room code and turns on join approval when you host.

What games can I play with chat?

The Imposter game works best with viewers joining your room. While chat watches, try Charades (chat guesses), the daily Hangman word and Word Search puzzle (chat helps), Football Bingo and Guess the Player (chat names footballers), or a 1v1 against a viewer in Guess Who or Football Tic-Tac-Toe.

How many viewers can play?

An online Imposter room takes 3 to 15 players. Everyone else can watch and guess along in chat.

Is it free? Do I need an extension or an account?

It is free and runs in your browser. There is no extension, bot or download, and you do not need an account to host a room.

Can my viewers see the notification?

Not with Window Capture: OBS records only the browser window, and the notification appears outside it. With Display Capture they can. Use Test notification to check your preview before you go live.

Does Streamer Mode work on a phone?

Partly. The room code stays hidden and join approval still turns on, but a phone cannot show your card as a notification. Hold to show it when viewers cannot see your screen.

Do the other players need Streamer Mode?

No. It is saved for you only (on this device, and on your account when you are signed in), and the other players see the normal game. If another player streams too, they can turn it on for themselves.
