How to play Hangman
Choose your challenge
Pick a category and vocabulary level for solo play. For two players, one person enters a secret word or short phrase while the other looks away.
Guess one letter at a time
Tap a letter or type it on your keyboard. Every matching position is revealed together. A letter that is not in the answer uses one of your six mistakes.
Complete the word
Reveal all the letters before your sixth mistake. The answer and result appear inside the game, with a button to play again or change your settings.
Pick a category before you pick a letter
Animals, food, nature and home offer familiar starting points. Office life and football use words connected to those themes. Car brands and countries & cities deliberately include proper names, so expect spelling that may not behave like everyday English. Mixed themes draws from all eight categories. The category is useful information, not decoration. A five-letter animal and a five-letter kitchen item suggest different possibilities. Read the theme and the number of spaces first, then test letters that could distinguish between the words you have in mind.
Play a custom Hangman game with two players
Choose Two players and let the word setter type a word or short phrase. Use English letters, with optional spaces, apostrophes or hyphens, up to 24 characters. After the setter confirms, the answer disappears and a handoff screen asks you to pass the device. The guesser starts only when they are ready. This is local two-player play on one shared device; it is not an online room. Custom answers stay in the current tab memory and are not saved as a resume game or placed in a share link. Agree on whether names are allowed before starting, use a word the other person could reasonably know, and swap roles after the round.
A useful guessing strategy
Start with the category and the visible word length. A vowel can help you identify a pattern, but there is no opening letter that guarantees a win. After a few correct guesses, stop choosing letters at random. Compare possible words and choose a letter that tests a specific idea. Pay attention to repeated letters: one correct guess may reveal two or three positions. For example, finding A in BANANA reveals all three As. When there are only a few mistakes left, reread the pattern and your used letters before tapping another key. If you lose, use the revealed answer to notice a spelling pattern you can recognize next time.
