What is Guess Who?

Guess Who is the classic face guessing game for two players. Both players look at the same board of 24 faces and each one gets a secret character. You take turns asking questions that can be answered with yes or no, like "Does your person wear glasses?", and you flip down every face the answer rules out. The first player to name the other player's secret character wins the round. This version runs in the browser on phone, tablet and computer, with original characters, four boards and no download or account.

Example: you ask "Is your person wearing a hat?" Your friend says no, so you flip down every face with a hat. Ask about hair colour next, then glasses, and soon only one face is left standing. That is your guess.

How to play Guess Who online

  1. Get a secret character

Each player gets a random face from the same board. Look at it in private and keep it hidden.

  2. Ask yes or no questions

On your turn ask one question, like "Does your person have a beard?", then flip the faces that no longer fit.

  3. Guess first

Think you know? Use your turn to guess. A right guess wins the round, a wrong guess loses it.

Step by step

  1. Open the game and choose how to play.
  2. Pick one of the four boards: classic faces, football stars, animals or monsters.
  3. On one phone, type your names and pass the phone. Against the bot, pick easy, normal or hard.
  4. Each player taps to see their secret character in private. Remember it, then hide the screen.
  5. On your turn, ask one yes or no question, flip the faces the answer rules out and end your turn.
  6. When you are sure, use your turn to guess. A right guess wins the round, a wrong guess loses it. Then play a rematch.

Guess Who rules

Each turn you either ask one yes or no question or make one guess. Answers must be honest, and each player keeps their own board. You can flip a face down or stand it back up whenever you like, so a wrong tap is easy to fix. A wrong guess ends the round and the other player wins it. There is no timer, so think as long as you need. In a rematch the other player starts, and the score stays on screen until you leave.

Four boards with original characters

Every board has 24 characters drawn for this game, so each one feels like a new match. Some boards are easy for younger players, others need sharper questions.

  • AmiraAdamHanaKarim

    Classic faces

Twelve women and twelve men with every hair colour, hats, glasses, beards and earrings. The classic way to play.

  • RafaAdeYassinBruno

    Football stars

Twenty-four made-up footballers in six shirt colours, with goalkeepers, headbands, beards and stripes.

  • LionPenguinDogBat

    Animals

From the lion to the octopus: ask about stripes, spots, feathers, big ears or what each animal wears.

  • ZigTuftFizzSquish

    Monsters

Friendly monsters in six colours. Count the eyes, look for horns, wings, antennae and fangs.

Ways to play Guess Who

  • Online with a friend

Create a private room, share the link and chat while you play. Write your question in the chat and your friend answers yes or no with one tap. If your connection drops, you come back to the same match.

  • Two players, one phone

Sit together and pass the phone. Each turn starts with a cover screen, so nobody sees the other board. Ask your questions out loud.

  • Against the bot

No friend around? Play the bot in easy, normal or hard. Pick your questions from a list and use the button that flips every face that no longer fits.

Guess Who tips

Strong players rarely guess early. They ask questions that cut the board in half.

  • Ask about traits that about half of the faces share. "Is it a woman?" on the classic board removes 12 faces at once.
  • Avoid questions about one rare detail early on. If the answer is no, you only flip one or two faces.
  • Combine what you know: after "no hat" and "black hair", look for the trait that splits the faces that are left.
  • Watch how many faces your friend has left. When they are close, guessing between two can be worth it.
  • Check twice before you guess. A wrong guess loses the round straight away.
