Mafia Game
A complete, read-aloud Mafia Game narrator script for every night and day phase, or let our free app display the exact lines for you automatically.
The narrator is the engine of the Mafia Game. They set the atmosphere, keep the rhythm, and guide the group through every night and day phase. But memorising the full script is a lot to ask of a first-time host.
This guide gives you the complete Mafia Game narrator script, every line, in order, ready to read aloud. Or skip the memorising entirely and let our free app display the script for you automatically.

As narrator, you hold the phone throughout the game. Your responsibilities:
You do not need to memorise any of this. Our Mafia Game narrator dashboard shows every line on-screen as you go. The script below is a reference, for those who prefer to print it, or who want to understand the structure before their first session.
"Welcome to the Mafia Game. Everyone look at me. In a moment I will ask you to close your eyes and put your heads down, keep them down until I tell you to open them. Do not peek. There are no second chances if you see something you should not."
"The Mafia Game works like this: at night, secret roles will take action. By day, the town debates and votes to eliminate one suspect. The Village wins by eliminating all Mafia. The Mafia wins when their numbers match the village. Any questions before we begin?"
(Pause for questions, then:)
"Everyone, close your eyes, heads down. The night has fallen."
"Mafia, open your eyes."
(Mafia members open their eyes and make eye contact with each other. They silently agree on a target and point. Tap the target in the app.)
"Mafia, close your eyes. Well done."
"Detective, open your eyes."
(Detective silently points at a player to investigate. The app shows the result privately to you. Give a silent nod if they are Mafia, a silent head-shake if they are Not Mafia.)
"Detective, close your eyes."
"Doctor, open your eyes."
(Doctor silently points at a player to save. Tap the saved player in the app.)
"Doctor, close your eyes."
Add these blocks if the corresponding roles are in play:
The Mastermind wakes with the Mafia. No separate block required, they are already included in the Mafia wake-up.
"Serial Killer, open your eyes."
(Serial Killer points at their target. Tap in the app.)
"Serial Killer, close your eyes."
"Lookout, open your eyes."
(Lookout points at a player they want to watch. Tap in the app, it will show you who visited that player overnight at dawn resolution.)
"Lookout, close your eyes."
(Note: the Lookout's information is shown to you privately in the app; share it with the Lookout at dawn via a discreet nod toward each player who visited, or whisper it if your group prefers.)
(Resolve the night in the app, it automatically calculates saves, kills, and the Lookout's observation result.)
"Everyone, open your eyes. The town wakes to a new day."
If someone was eliminated:
"We have terrible news. [Player Name] was found [eliminated / did not survive the night]. [Player Name], please reveal your role."
(Eliminated player shows their role. They may no longer speak during the game but may watch.)
If the Doctor saved someone (no death):
"Remarkably, everyone survived the night. The Doctor's protection held."
If the Serial Killer was active (in addition to the Mafia): (The app will resolve both kills separately, announce only deaths, not causes.)
"The town has [X] players remaining. You have [timer] to discuss before the vote."
(Start the discussion timer in the app.)
"Debate, question, accuse. When the timer ends, we vote."
(Let the players debate. When the timer ends:)
"Time is up. On my count, one, two, three, point at the person you want to eliminate."
(Players all point simultaneously.)
If there is a clear majority:
"The town has spoken. [Player Name], please reveal your role."
(Player reveals. If they are Mafia, the town cheers, if not, they go quiet.)
If there is a tie:
"A tied vote. No one is eliminated this round. The night falls again."
Village wins:
"The last Mafia member has been eliminated. The Village has won! Well played, town."
Mafia wins:
"The Mafia now equals the Village in number. Resistance is futile. The Mafia wins!"
Jester wins (if in play, triggers when the Jester is voted out):
"[Player Name] has been eliminated, and reveals the Jester role. The Jester wins! They fooled the entire town into voting them out."
Serial Killer wins (if in play, triggers when they are the last player):
"One player remains. [Player Name] stands alone, they were the Serial Killer. The Serial Killer wins."
Use a low, deliberate voice during the night phase. Speed and volume signal excitement, but night should feel tense and quiet. Slow down. Pause between lines. Let the silence do the work.
Keep a neutral face at all times. You know who the Mafia are, who the Detective investigated, who the Doctor saved. Your expression should reveal nothing. Practice in a mirror if you need to.
Animate the day phase. The night script is scripted, the day is yours. "The sun rises over a nervous town..." goes a long way towards building atmosphere.
Do not rush the vote. The simultaneous point vote is a high-drama moment. Build it up: "On my count, everyone, all at once, one... two... three..."
Let the app handle the bookkeeping. You do not need to track who is alive, who was saved, or whether the win condition has been met, the narrator dashboard does all of that. Your one job is to read and perform.
If reading from this page is not your style, our free Mafia Game narrator dashboard shows every line on-screen as you play. You never need to memorise or print anything.
Q: Do I need to read this script exactly? A: No. The lines above are a template. Experienced narrators often riff, add flavour ("The streets are quiet... too quiet...") and cut filler. The key is to hit the structural beats: wake-up, action, close, dawn announcement, discussion, vote.
Q: What if I accidentally reveal who the Mafia is? A: Recover gracefully, "I misspoke", and replay the night from that step if necessary. Our app's narrator dashboard minimises this risk because you tap selections rather than announcing them.
Q: Can two people share the narrator role? A: Yes. Some groups split: one person reads the script, the other manages the app. Works well with larger groups.
Q: How do I signal the Detective result without others noticing? A: Keep the phone at chest height facing you, give a small nod or head-shake while looking slightly away from the group. Practice a neutral face in both responses so your body language does not give away which signal you gave.
