What Is Spyfall?
Spyfall is a game of questions and bluffing for 3–12 players. At the start of each round, everyone is secretly shown the same secret location, a Casino, a Hospital, an Airplane, along with a unique role at that place. Everyone except one player: the spy.
The spy doesn't know the location and has to work it out by listening carefully, while everyone else tries to expose the spy, without making the location obvious. Say too much and the spy learns where you are; say too little and you start to look like the spy.
The Goal
- Non-spies win by voting out the spy.
- The spy wins by guessing the location, surviving until the timer runs out, or tricking the group into accusing an innocent player.
How to Set Up Spyfall
- Open the game and add 3–12 player names.
- Pick a location pack (or use the default).
- Set the round timer, 8 minutes is the classic length.
- Tap Start.
The game randomly picks a location, secretly assigns one spy, and gives everyone else a unique role.
The Reveal: Pass the Phone
Spyfall is pass-and-play, so you share one device:
- The phone shows the first player their location and role (for example, Casino, Dealer).
- They tap to hide it and pass the phone to the next player.
- One player will instead see "You are the SPY."
- Once everyone has seen their card, you're ready to play.
How a Round Works
Now put the phone down and play out loud:
- The app names who asks first.
- That player asks any other player a question about the location, for example, "How long have you worked here?"
- The player answers, then asks the next person a question of their own.
- Keep going, round-robin, watching for anyone who seems unsure.
The whole art of Spyfall is answering in a way that proves you know the location to the other players, but doesn't hand it to the spy.
How to Win
At any time you can use the two buttons in the game:
- Accuse a player, the group picks who they think is the spy. Right = the team wins. Wrong = the spy wins.
- Spy: guess the location, if you're the spy and you're confident, stop the game and name the place. Correct = the spy wins.
If the timer runs out, it's time for a final accusation.
4 Tips for Your First Game
- Ask specific but open questions. "What's the weather like where you are?" exposes a faker without naming the place.
- Don't be too vague. Super-evasive answers make you look like the spy.
- If you're the spy, stay calm. Listen for details, match the tone of others, and only guess when you're sure.
- Watch who hesitates. The spy often pauses before answering.
