How to play Word Connect
Connect the letters
Drag from one letter tile to another and release to submit. You can also tap letters, then Check word, or type a word and press Enter.
Fill the crossword
Correct target words appear on the board, revealing shared letters at intersections. Each tile can be used once per word; repeated letters have separate tiles.
Finish and move on
Find every target word to complete the level. Use two free letter hints if needed, discover bonus words, then continue from the result inside the game.
How the letter wheel works
Connect tiles in the order of the word you want to spell. The line may cross the middle of the wheel: the letters do not have to be neighbors. Each physical tile can be used only once in a word. If the wheel contains two Es, you can use both; if it has only one, you cannot use that tile twice. Drag back to the previous tile to undo your last step. With tap controls, use the undo button to correct a letter, or Shuffle to clear the selection and rearrange the wheel. On phones, the game opens in an expanded view, with the wheel below the crossword for easy thumb access. Use the top expand button to return to the page. On a physical keyboard, type letters, use Backspace to undo and press Enter to submit. These different controls all follow the same word rules.
Crossword answers and bonus words
Every board has a selected set of target words. Finding a target fills its cells, including any letters shared with another answer. Look at those intersections when you are stuck: one solved word can give you a useful starting letter for the next. Some extra words are recognized as bonuses even though they are not on the board. The game uses a curated English word list, not a complete dictionary, so not every possible English word will be accepted. Bonus words are counted separately and do not replace required answers. There is no penalty for trying a word or submitting one you already found.
Use shuffle and hints when you need a fresh start
The Shuffle button in the center of the wheel changes the positions of the letter tiles while keeping the same letters and answers. It is free to use and does not reset the board. Try it when your eyes keep returning to the same combinations, then look for a different beginning or ending. Each level also has two free letter hints. A hint reveals one hidden crossword cell, which may help more than one word at an intersection. It does not automatically mark a word as found: you still need to spell that answer on the wheel. No payment or video advertisement is required to use these hints.
A simple strategy for connecting words
Begin with a short word you can see quickly, then use its revealed letters to guide the next guess. Rearrange the same letters into different orders: CAT and ACT are different words, and a longer wheel can contain both. Longer answers often become easier once you have a few crossing letters. Check repeated letters carefully before trying a word. A six-letter answer might need two copies of a vowel even if it looks familiar. When the last word will not come to mind, compare the visible pattern with the unused combinations on the wheel rather than repeatedly submitting the same guess. You can always leave a level and return to its saved board later.
Quick tips
Start with the short words
Three- and four-letter words come fastest and reveal crossing letters that help with the long answers.
Try endings on words you have found
If the wheel has the letters, add S, ED, ER or ING to a word you already found. A longer form is often another answer.
Shuffle instead of forcing it
If you have stared at the same arrangement for a while, shuffle. A new order of the same letters often shows a word at once.
Read the crossings
A letter revealed at an intersection narrows the neighbouring word. Check it before you try another guess.
Save hints for the hardest cell
You get two free hints per level. Use them on a long word where no crossing letter helps.
Collect bonus words
Bonus words do not finish the level, but they show how many combinations hide in the same letters.
Questions
How many Word Connect levels are available?
English has 5,437 levels, French has 5,002 and Arabic has 926. Each language has its own word lists and saved progress. New packs load as you reach them; these are levels, not separate word categories.
Is this Word Connect game free online?
Yes. All levels, shuffle and the two hints per level are free in your browser. You do not need an account or download, and active gameplay is ad-free.
How do I connect letters on a phone?
Touch a letter, drag through the other tiles in order, then lift your finger. Or tap letters one at a time and press Check word. Each tile can be used once per word.
Why was my word not accepted?
It may need a letter that is not on the wheel, reuse a tile too many times, or fall outside our curated English word list. Not every dictionary word is included.
Can I play with a keyboard?
Yes. Type the letters of a word and press Enter. Backspace removes the last selected letter and Escape clears the selection. You can also tab to the on-screen controls.
Does Word Connect save my level?
The current level, found words, bonuses and used hints are saved on this device when browser storage works. There is no account sync between devices.
Are Word Connect and Connections the same game?
No. This game builds words from a letter wheel to fill a crossword. Grouping several words into categories is a different type of puzzle.
