How to play Guess the Footballer

Guess the Footballer is a daily football quiz. Everyone gets the same mystery player for the day, picked from well-known players in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and the Saudi Pro League. You have 8 tries, and every guess tells you how close you are.

  1. Pick a player

Type two or more letters and choose a footballer from the list. Accents and capitals do not matter, so "mbappe" finds Mbappé.

  2. Read the colours

Green means the same country, league, club, position or age. Yellow means close: the same continent, a different club in the same league, the same line on the pitch, or within two years of age.

  3. Follow the arrow

The age arrow points up when the mystery player is older than your guess and down when he is younger.

  4. Watch the photo

The mystery player's photo starts blurred and gets sharper with every wrong guess.

  5. Share without spoilers

When you finish, share your coloured grid. It shows how you did without giving away the name.

  6. Come back tomorrow

A new player arrives at midnight on your phone. Win on consecutive days to build your streak, or switch to free play for unlimited rounds.

Daily player or free play

The daily player is the same for everyone, so you can compare with friends. Free play picks a random footballer each round, and you can choose the leagues and the difficulty, from household names to hidden gems. Want to play against a friend instead? Try the two-player mode on one phone.

A worked example

Say today's mystery footballer is a Real Madrid defender. You start with Pedri. Spain turns yellow, because the mystery player is also European. LaLiga turns green, so he plays in Spain. Barcelona turns yellow: same league, different club. Central Midfield is grey, so he is not a midfielder, and the age arrow points up: he is older than 23. Next you try Thibaut Courtois. Belgium is yellow again, LaLiga and Real Madrid are green, Goalkeeper is grey, and 34 is yellow with an arrow pointing down: he is 32 or 33. A European outfield player at Real Madrid, a little younger than Courtois, who is not a midfielder: Antonio Rüdiger fits, and all five boxes turn green.

How to find the player in fewer tries

Open with a well-known player from a big league, because the league box is the fastest way to cut the list down. Once the league is green, guess players from different clubs in that league until the club turns green too. Use the position box next: grey means a different line, so jump from a defender to a forward rather than trying another defender. Treat the age arrow like a number-guessing game and aim halfway between the ages you have already ruled out. Read every box of every row before you guess again: one yellow country can rule out half the world.

Which footballers can come up

The game covers six leagues: the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and the Saudi Pro League. The daily player is always one of about 550 well-known footballers, the regulars you see every weekend. Free play can use all 1,381 active players in the game, sorted into four difficulty levels: Casual for household names, Pro for first-team regulars, Scouting for squad and rotation players, and Impossible for hidden gems only die-hard fans know. Retired legends are not part of the solo mode. Club information was last checked in September 2026, after the summer transfer window.

Streaks, stats and sharing

Every daily result is saved on your phone, without an account. You can see how many games you played, your win rate, your current streak, your best streak and how many tries your wins took. Win on consecutive days to grow the streak; a missed day starts it again from zero. When you finish, share your coloured grid with friends or in a group chat. It shows how many tries you needed without giving the name away, so everyone can still play the same player.

Play with friends: the two-player duel

Guess the Player also has a two-player mode for one phone. Each player privately gets a secret footballer, then you take turns asking yes or no questions against a chess clock, and the first to name the other's player wins. It works well at a party, on a trip or in a classroom, and it uses the same footballers and the same difficulty levels as the solo game.

Questions

When does the daily player change?

At midnight in your own time zone. Your guesses for the day are saved on your phone, so you can close the page and come back. A game you start before midnight still counts for the day you started it.

Which players can come up?

The daily player is a well-known footballer from the six leagues. Free play can use every active player in the game, more than 1,300 of them, depending on the difficulty you pick.

Do I need an account?

No. It is free, there is nothing to download, and your stats stay on your device.

Why is a player shown at his old club?

Club information was last checked in September 2026. A player who moved after that can still appear at his previous club until the next update.

Can I play more than once a day?

There is one daily player, but free play has no limit. Pick the leagues and the difficulty, press Start, and play as many rounds as you like.

Does it work on a phone and a computer?

Yes. It runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, in English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Hindi and German.
